Supporting Teammates in Need: DaVita Village Network Founded
The DaVita Village Network awards its first grant to support teammates experiencing temporary hardship or crisis.
Every approved grant that supports teammates is supported by both DaVita and teammates who donated, 50/50. Since 2007, teammates have donated $3.5 million dollars, and DaVita has donated $3.5 million dollars toward these support efforts.

DaVita opens first Lifeline Vascular Access center to aid in dialysis readiness and early-intervention access care.

Bettering Outcomes: DaVita Launches Its First VBC Program
DaVita launches VillageHealth®, its first stake in the ground to support value-based care, with the goal of enhancing clinical quality for people with chronic kidney disease.

Patient-Led Efforts Help Drive Public Policy
DaVita launches Dialysis Patient Citizens, a patient-led advocacy group. Today, DPC operates completely independently as a non-profit organization with more than 35,000 members across the U.S. The organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people who need dialysis through advocating for public policy.

Natural Disaster Support: Proactive Team Established
The DaVita Village Emergency Response Team (DaVERT) is introduced to create a robust team dedicated to emergency policies and procedures. The team continues to activate emergency resources and support through floods, wildfires, hurricanes, winter storms and more.

Redwoods Leadership Development Program: Leadership Foundations
DaVita introduces its Redwoods Leadership Development Program — a leadership accelerator program designed to develop future healthcare leaders. The one-year program was first designed to engage with MBA students from universities across the U.S.
Today, more than half of DaVita’s most senior regional leaders are graduates of the Redwoods Resident (MBA) program.

Health Plan Innovation: DaVita Helps Test Design
DaVita works with a health plan to participate in a CMS ESKD demonstration project. The program eventually converts to a Medicare Advantage Chronic Disease Special Needs Plan (C-SNP).

DaVita establishes Bridge of Life, an independent non-profit organization, to bring much-needed kidney care to underserved communities abroad.

Supporting CKD Screenings: DaVita Hosts Annual Fundraiser
DaVita holds its first kidney awareness “Kidney Awareness Time” Walk-a-thon (or KAT Walk), hosting annual events in 14 cities across the U.S. in one day to raise money for The Kidney TRUST, and provide no-cost education and kidney health evaluations.

HHD Expansion: DaVita Partners to Forward Home Dialysis
DaVita expands at-home treatment availability through a home hemodialysis (HHD) agreement with NxStage and kicks off key initiatives for the two companies to collaborate on HHD awareness, public policy and research.

DaVita’s first kidney-friendly cookbook is published. Since then, 47+ cookbooks have been released, and recipes have been downloaded more than 1 million times.

The Treatment Evaluator tool launches to help patients explore treatment modalities and options to discuss with their nephrologists.
Modality decisions are made exclusively between the patient and their physician.

DaVita publishes its first annual Community Care Report, highlighting impact on its patients, teammates and the world.

Redwoods Program Expands to Extend Leadership Development Opportunities
The Redwoods Program expands to include the Redwoods Analyst program for undergraduate students. The program continues to evolve, now empowering current teammates to be nominated or apply for certain Redwoods opportunities, including the internal Foresters program.

Flu Vaccination Rates Soar
DaVita vaccinates 85% of patients through its “Flu Fighter Program,” which raises awareness about flu vaccinations. By 2012, DaVita increases to 91% of patients receiving the flu vaccination, leading the industry.

Infection Reduction: CathAway® Initiative Launches
DaVita launches its CathAway® initiative and reduces central venous catheter (CVC) use to lowest levels in industry. For the past decade, DaVita has continued to demonstrate the lowest CVC rates.
CVCs are associated with higher rates of infection than other dialysis access options.

DaVita begins IMPACT patient education program to improve first-year outcomes — a critical period for patients new to dialysis treatments.

Strong Leadership: Pamela Arway Joins the Board
Pamela Arway is appointed to DaVita’s Board of Directors. In 2020, Arway is named the board chair.

The first We Are Well Award is introduced for benefits-eligible teammates. To celebrate and support teammates on their own well-being journeys, each year DaVita provides 100 award recipients fully paid medical insurance premiums for an entire year.

Serving Veterans: Collaboration with the VA Begins
DaVita becomes one of nine providers participating in the Veteran Administration’s (VA) National Dialysis Services Contract (NDSC). As a provider in the NDSC, DaVita helps ensure eligible veterans have access to treatment when a VA facility cannot provide dialysis.

First Hemodiafiltration Treatment in the U.S.
DaVita provides first hemodiafiltration treatment in U.S. In addition to the standard hemodialysis process, hemodiafiltration further cleanses the blood with an extra step that can remove larger toxin particles.

Through advocacy efforts and work with the federal government, DaVita starts offering COVID-19 vaccines to patients and teammates in dialysis centers under a federal partnership allocating vaccinations for dialysis providers.
In 2022, it was found that this partnership reduced racial disparities in vaccination coverage among people who received dialysis.
