DaVita launch is announced, with name democratically chosen for its translation: “To give life.”

600+ leaders vote and establish Core Values. These values — Service Excellence, Integrity, Team, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Fulfillment and Fun — serve as the foundation of our culture.

The DaVita Way is established to highlight the intensity with which we care for everyone. Teammates from across the country also gather for the first Villagewide meeting, bringing people together to celebrate, connect and learn.

DaVita creates DaVita University to centralize award-winning leadership, professional and personal development programs.

DaVita launches VillageHealth®, its first stake in the ground to support value-based care, with the goal of enhancing clinical quality for people with chronic kidney disease.

DaVita launches Dialysis Patient Citizens, a patient-led advocacy group. Today, DPC operates completely independently as a non-profit organization with more than 35,000 members across the U.S. The organization is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people who need dialysis through advocating for public policy.

The DaVita Village Emergency Response Team (DaVERT) is introduced to create a robust team dedicated to emergency policies and procedures. The team continues to activate emergency resources and support through floods, wildfires, hurricanes, winter storms and more.

DaVita introduces its Redwoods Leadership Development Program — a leadership accelerator program designed to develop future healthcare leaders. The one-year program was first designed to engage with MBA students from universities across the U.S. 

Today, more than half of DaVita’s most senior regional leaders are graduates of the Redwoods Resident (MBA) program.

DaVita works with a health plan to participate in a CMS ESKD demonstration project. The program eventually converts to a Medicare Advantage Chronic Disease Special Needs Plan (C-SNP).

DaVita establishes Bridge of Life, an independent non-profit organization, to bring much-needed kidney care to underserved communities abroad.

Village Green, DaVita’s sustainability team, is formed, aiming to reduce environmental impact while educating patients and teammates on how they can help.

DaVita’s first kidney-friendly cookbook is published. Since then, 47+ cookbooks have been released, and recipes have been downloaded more than 1 million times.

The Treatment Evaluator tool launches to help patients explore treatment modalities and options to discuss with their nephrologists.

Modality decisions are made exclusively between the patient and their physician.

DaVita publishes its first annual Community Care Report, highlighting impact on its patients, teammates and the world.

The Redwoods Program expands to include the Redwoods Analyst program for undergraduate students. The program continues to evolve, now empowering current teammates to be nominated or apply for certain Redwoods opportunities, including the internal Foresters program.

DaVita launches its CathAway® initiative and reduces central venous catheter (CVC) use to lowest levels in industry. For the past decade, DaVita has continued to demonstrate the lowest CVC rates.

CVCs are associated with higher rates of infection than other dialysis access options.

DaVita begins IMPACT patient education program to improve first-year outcomes — a critical period for patients new to dialysis treatments.

DaVita establishes voluntary quality improvement measurements to increase standards of care.

DaVita introduces myDaVita™, a social component of DaVita.com that connects registered users with other patients to share their personal experiences and find support in managing kidney health needs.

DaVita centers open internationally, expanding access to DaVita’s high-quality kidney care to new countries. Today, DaVita operates in 14 countries outside of the U.S.

Kidney Smart® launches, providing patients and their loved ones award-winning education on managing chronic kidney disease. More than 300K people have attended a Kidney Smart class in person or virtually.

DaVita Hospital Services receives Ambulatory Healthcare Accreditation from The Joint Commission.

DaVita’s FluidWise®, Meds Matter and WipeOut programs are created to improve patient health, longevity.

DaVita provides first hemodiafiltration treatment in U.S. In addition to the standard hemodialysis process, hemodiafiltration further cleanses the blood with an extra step that can remove larger toxin particles.

DaVita hosts its first annual Earth Day Village Service Days to encourage teammates to volunteer for service projects to benefit the environment.

DaVita participates in CMS’s first-ever Medicare Disease-Specific Accountable Care Organization: the End Stage Renal Disease Seamless Care Organization (ESCO) program.

DaVita Clinical Research celebrates its 30th anniversary.

DaVita continues work toward its goals to support healthy environments through initiatives affecting water reduction, waste management, energy optimization and energy production.

1,000+ teammates volunteer to travel and help 20,000 hurricane-affected patients.

DaVita starts working with skilled nursing facilities to provide in-house dialysis care for residents.

DaVita creates Vively® Health to provide in-home primary care for most vulnerable patients.

Bridge to Your Dreams is introduced to teammates to support patient care technicians who want to pursue a nursing degree and grow in their careers. Today, the program has expanded to also help teammates with personalized support for scheduling challenges, family responsibilities, and professional development needs.

DaVita introduces ClearGuard, an infection prevention device that has helped teams decrease blood stream infections by 70%.

The first DaVita Health Tour brings free health screenings and kidney health education to communities across the U.S.

OneView launches as a no-cost tool for nephrologists caring for patients in DaVita centers.

2020-2024

Through a unanimous decision from the Board of Directors, DaVita joins several other healthcare companies in returning funds granted through the Healthcare Enhancement Act (Cares Act).

DaVita collaborates with Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT) on the MLT Black Equity at Work Certification.

DaVita became certified in 2022 and, in 2023, also earned the MLT Hispanic Equity at Work Certification.

DaVita publishes its first Diversity & Belonging Report, to provide clarity on current progress and initiatives that align with four strategic principles: belonging, representation, economic mobility and health equity.

DaVita and the American Diabetes Association (ADA) work together to raise awareness about the link between diabetes and kidney disease.

DaVita Clinical Research launches the Chronic Kidney Disease & Rare Disease Network to help expand studies for more sites of care and greater diversity in opportunities.

DaVita introduces Clinical Ladders to create transparency for teammates through clear role definitions as well as competency and milestone definitions. Since launch, Clinical Ladders has helped facilitate career growth, with more than 20,000 teammates promoted through the program.

DaVita acquires MedSleuth, a transplant technology company, to help advance efforts to improve the transplant experience. Today, MedSleuth’s innovative BREEZE platform is implemented in 100% of DaVita centers in the U.S.

Together with Medtronic, DaVita launches Mozarc Medical, an independent company committed to reshaping the kidney health experience with patient-centered technology solutions.

DaVita announces work with Adtalem and Western Governors University to help create a nephrology curriculum for nursing students.

DaVita earns 95 (out of 100) on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.

DaVita announces expansion of operations in Brazil and Colombia as well as new operations in Chile and Ecuador, making it the largest dialysis services provider in Latin America.
